Last week I was away for a working trip down to Beijing, because my company has a exhibition over at Beijing, so I do travel a bit for work and mostly to China because I handling the sales of the china market. As it was a working trip I did not get to do much sight seeing, only dinner after work and some last minutes rush to some shopping outlets and walk around their out door stalls. Always a short trip of 4 days, I never extend my stay to do sight seeing etc. Manage to go to the Great Wall of China on the day I am due to fly back, went there early in the morning it took us about 2 hours drive to arrive at great wall, made our way about about 30 mins for the climb and 30 mins back down and off to the airport to catch my flight home.
My family was asking so the view is fantastic, I said yes is 'breathe taking' (my breath) hahahaha. after the climb to the top I was almost breathless..... whew..... Should have taken the cable car and have a relax and leisure view of the scenery.
One night after work and dinner was strolling along the busy side road and saw this gentleman dress in an armour suit standing at the entrance of the shop, so I decided to take a picture of him.I find it quite unique, the way they dress for just to attract foreign customers. Is different from Singapore, where we always get pretty girls dressed up and distribute flyers or just cartons character to attract customers.
These are all raw food, you can see the pink colour tray is actually snake, far right is silk worm, big cuttle fish testicles, they cost just 10 rmb for 3 sticks. after you choose it they barbeque in front of you. Almost the whole streets the stalls are selling all these types of raw food. the stalls are just set up outside big shopping centre, just like our orchard road area. Lots of tourists looking but not many tried, most of them who bought it are mainland chinese.

道菜肴看起来很好吃,有红有青色,我看到隔壁卓在吃, I asked my China colleague what that dish? He checked with the waiter, and I heard her said 'yu rou' in chinese. He repeated and I said okay let try it, coz it really looks nice and tasty.
When they brought the dish over, I took a piece of the meat and was wondering hmmm how come there meat, maybe it mixed with the fish meat. meat yet.
Then my Thai colleague took a piece too, he asked is this beef? My china colleague said ' no no' is ............ can you guess what meat is that?
After both of us heard that, we dare not eat that meat again, the whole dish was finished off by my china colleague..... hahahahha...... Want to make a guess what we have order.

Can you guess what dish is this? it is call 'tian jiao' deep in batter and deep fried, this is actually quite crispy but a little blend. It ate by farmers of older day.

Vegetable, is water cress and they just boil it in water and mixed it with mustard sauce...... for me the taste '有点怪怪咯,因为我不吃mustard.
Here something like pineapple rice, but they use glutionous rice but not to clean lor.... so I again never try it, just look at it.
And the fresh water fish, I think is 'trouw' they rear it in a pond, and when you order it they scope it up with a net, and throw it on the floor, and the catcher use a 'baton' to hit the fish head, and the fish start jumping around. Aiyo... so cruel... but if don't see you don't know, so you just eat it

Hi Mabel,
Finally, u updated ur trip to Beijing.
Although u were busy at work but u managed to visit The Great Wall. Must be very "Great".
As for the food, all looked so weird. As for the "yu rou", I think maybe is bat meat.
Cheers

Mabel,
How's the food? Nice to eat or not?
So many years ago I went to Beijing and also visited "The Great Wall". I managed to climb up all but very tough & I got a certificate. Haha.... this certificate we bought from them.
I guess the "yu rou" is bat meat or squirrel meat.
Mabel jie jie
Did u buy the certificate for climbing the great wall?
L-5
Wow you are the first to come in my blog hor, will give you a cert for it.
Yes, working trip is always busy and no time for shopping or sight seeing is so different when we actually went for a holiday.

Hi Mabel
only managed to see your pictures this morning...haven't wandered to your blog last few nights...
Thanks for sharing the photos, is this your first time in Beijing? I haven't been there myself, only started touring the southern provinces. While reading your posting, already guessed it could be donkey meat...hahaha...have you tried deer meat, just thinking if both meat texture are the same.
Hi Margaret
Hee hee thank you for coming in to my blog hor hahaha.
You must have been busy at work. Yes is my first time in Beijing, and is solely working trip. I have been to other part of China, but all working trip, never go there for tour yet. Because working and going for sight seeing is totally different.
When you are there visiting, the feeling is so relax and nice and you enjoy every moment leisurely. But if it is for work, then we only go to the shopping area at night after work, no sight seeing of historial sight. Oh well has been lucky to be able to go such places, if not for work I don't think I will travel that far ;).
